Damien: So tell us a little bit about yourself.

Brad: About myself or the business or a bit of both?

Damien: A bit of both.

Brad: Lovely. I was a real estate photographer for 16 years on the Sunshine coast. All I know is real estate photography. I did a course and that’s how I learned photography. I also used to work in a real estate office as well selling waterfront prestige properties on the Sunshine coast.

Damien: Wow that sounds exciting.

Brad: I didn’t actually sell. I was more customer service but I know how an office works. So I realized that agents need marketing and they need it looking sharp and on point.

Damien: So what do you see is the biggest opportunity right now in real estate?

Brad: Good question. I think automation. There’s gonna be a lot of that happening. There’s lots of great software out there. We’re lucky enough to be able to travel globally and do a lot of conferences like this. There’s a lot of exciting tech. So I think if agents have to jump on board, otherwise they’ll get left behind pretty quick.

Damien: So we’re talking about disruption so I suppose my first question for you is, how long have you been in the industry?

Kasey: I’ve been in the industry for 20 years.

Damien: 20 years. Wow. That’s a long time.

Kasey: It is a long time.

Damien: So you’ve seen a lot of things change in that time. What do you think’s been the biggest change you’ve seen in the last 20 years?

Kasey: Look, the biggest thing for me when I started was the fact that we used to manually do all of our entry condition reports. And what I mean is that you print a piece of paper, hand write every single note down and you have to come back to the office and actually type it up.

So I think, you know, with technology changes, it’s certainly allowed us to be more efficient in property management. That’s just pinpointing one specific thing from that point of view.

Damien: So what do you think is the biggest challenge is for people in the industry right now?

Kasey: I actually think the biggest challenge is the innovation that they actually need to start to consider and implement in their business. And as a part of that process, that’s technology, that’s considering outsourcing.

You know, it’s looking at your non-dollar productive tasks and speaking with you know, the likes of yourself at Affordable Staff. And you know, getting that kind of tasks outsourced so that you can be focused on building better relationships with landlords and tenants. So I think that’s definitely something that needs to change.
