Eva Judge from Affordable Staff and welcome to our RAW Q&A session around outsourcing.

We’ve created this series of videos for businesses that have considered outsourcing and have genuine questions, or concerns that need answering.

The format is 3 questions and 3 answers based on over 320,000 hours of outsourcing experience.

Let’s get into it

How often should I communicate with outsourced staff?

This a really good question and one we are asked regularly. First of all, we’ve found you should have contact with your team DAILY. This allows you to keep the flow of communication between you and your team open and to react to issues and tasks quickly.

The usual follow up question to this is… In what ways should I be in daily contact with my team? We strongly encourage you communicate using voice, 2 way chat, screen sharing and other methods that support a 2 way flow of communication.

Whilst email is still ok as a back-up we’ve found dynamic 2 way communication reduces time waste … and headaches.

How do I continue to motivate my established offshore team?

We’ve found that our clients that integrate their offshore staff into their existing team get the best results and keep their team motivated.

Although you may have a person working in another country you can still promote ‘One Team’ behaviour model.

We find this prevents the ‘us’ and ‘them’ mentality. It will also empower your offshore team (as they feel their role is just as important as any other local team members) and will help to keep your established offshore team motivated.

You can even take this to the next level. We encourage our client’s to celebrate their offshore staff Birthday’s with a Birthday cake and to connect with them on those special occasions via video feed. There’s no nicer way to show a staff member that their team really do care.

How do local weather events like Typhoons affect Philippines Staff?

Ok, this is a bit of a random question but it is one we are asked from time to time.

Local weather events like typhoons can definitely affect an office and the staff within the Philippines due to its close location to the equator and other factors.

The biggest impact is usually power and in some regions it can also cause significant flooding. When you look at outsourcing you should always ask how local events like Typhoons will affect their office and confirm that the office has a generator that can act as an alternative power source should they lose power.

This is obviously another big advantage of having your team working from within an office.

In reality there are local events that will impact any region where ever you offshore to, and it’s important to ask the question in advance about that area and to make sure you (or the company you outsource to) can demonstrate how they reduce that risk.

Ok, that’s it
