Eva Judge from Affordable Staff and welcome to our RAW q&a session around outsourcing.

We’ve created these series of videos for businesses that have considered outsourcing and they have genuine questions or concerns that need answering.

The format? 3 questions and 3 answers based on over 250,000 hours of outsourcing experience.

Let’s start with the first question…

What happens when my team member is sick?

Within our employment structure, we follow a similar process as for Australian employees whereby each team member is entitled to a number of sick days. Should your outsourced team member be unwell, we ensure you’re notified as soon as we know… which is generally the night before or early that morning.

Generally, all pending tasks would carry onto the next day or the day of team members return. However, at times we come across a number of instances when an urgent task still needs to be completed… and if this is the case we have floaters that can step in for the day (or at least a portion of the day) to ensure everything continues as usual. Of course this would be dependant on whether the floaters are skilled in the particular task.

One other point I wanted to mention here… all of our team members are employed full time, meaning they receive all benefits including sick leave, annual leave, holiday, etc… like any Australian based employee would.

In my personal experience working with small to large companies here in Australia, you often come across serial offenders who tend to take a lot of sick days. Karen who looks after our office within the Philippines has developed an excellent incentivisation program to reduce instances of people “chucking a sicky”, which has had an excellent impact on staff attendance.

What happens if I need to contact my team member for something urgent outside of their work hours?

If there’s ever a reason to get in touch with your team member outside of work hours you can contact your account manager and they’ll arrange contact with your team member to either pass on the relevant information or to arrange a conversation if required.

Can I arrange my team to perform overtime?

Yes of course. Like with any local based team member, you can arrange overtime especially should you have an urgent or time sensitive tasks.  In saying this, due to the religious aspects of the Filipino culture, we prefer that team members where possible avoid work on days including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Holy Thursday (the day before Good Friday) and of course Good Friday.

When requesting SIGNIFICANT overtime from your team member, we generally ask that you also either notify your account manager or the allocated team leader.

Ok, great, that’s it
